KEGS for Sega Dreamcast
(An Apple IIgs emulator for Sega Dreamcast)
Controls
- In the emulator
- The Analog Thumb Pad can be used as either the Apple II joystick or the Apple II mouse.
- The Directional Pad can be used as the Apple II joystick.
- The A Button is Apple II joystick button 0.
- The B Button is Apple II joystick button 1.
- The X Button is either a user definable keyboard key when the Analog Thumb Pad is in joystick mode, or the mouse button when the Analog Thumb Pad is in mouse mode.
- The Y Button is also a user definable key.
- The Start Button toggles into and out of the Configuration menu, effectively pausing the game.
- If a controller becomes unplugged, the emulator enters the Configuration menu, effectively pausing the game.
- In the Configuration menu
- The Directional Pad moves through the menus (arrow keys).
- The A Button is Enter (return key).
- The B Button is Back (esc key).
- The X Button is eject (e key).
- Squeezing Trigger L will change the emulated speed to 1.0 MHz.
- Squeezing Trigger R will change the emulated speed to 2.8 MHz.
- Simultaneously holding down buttons A, B, X, Y, and Start will exit KEGS and return to the Dreamcast Main Menu.
- By default opening the disc door will exit KEGS and return to the Dreamcast Main Menu. This behavior can be changed in the Configuration menu.
- KEGS will look for the first memory card (slot A1 to D1, then A2 to D2) with a saved configuration file. If it doesn't find its configuration file, it will look for a memory card (slot A1 to D1, then A2 to D2) to write to. The configuration file can be moved to a memory card in any slot. The configuration file usually requires 2 to 3 blocks.
- After 10 minutes of inactivity, the screen will blank. Pressing a controller button or trigger, a keyboard key, or moving the mouse will stop the screensaver.
- The Sega Dreamcast Keyboard works.
- The Sega Dreamcast Mouse has not been tested, since I don't own one.
Known bugs
- Sound quality degrades over time; it is sometimes related to Code Yellows and Code REDs.
- Because the Dreamcast does not support double precision numbers, after 36 minutes the emulator starts skipping video frames and will eventually crash. I'm looking at possible fixes.
To Do
- Write protected / not write protected config option?
- Virtual keyboard?
History
- 11 Dec 2006 - testing
